Meeting the Moment Together
As you’ve likely seen and felt, the federal government has implemented a series of changes that have impacted our everyday lives. At the Action Center, these shifts have significantly affected our programs and the thousands of people who turn to us each month for food, clothing and other critical support. The stability we once relied on is no longer guaranteed. The changes are alarming, and as the largest and most comprehensive provider of free basic needs in the Denver Metro area, we are evolving to meet the moment.
The Impact on Our Programs
The changes have been significant. USDA food donations have been cut in half, resulting in a loss of 15,000 lbs. of meat and dairy products each month. Food funding from other reliable sources has also been reduced or eliminated. To compensate for this gap alone, we must raise over $200,000 by the end of calendar year 2025.
Our food donation programs have been hit the hardest, but they are not the only ones. Utility bill assistance has been disrupted twice this year due to funding shortages. Cuts to AmeriCorps and Senior Employment programs mean fewer hands to help with our clothing bank operations and holiday distribution efforts.
Why This Matters Now
The impact is profound, and the urgency is real. Nearly 300 households come to the Action Center every day. With SNAP and Medicaid reductions taking effect in 2026, that number is only expected to grow. No one should go to bed hungry. No child should face poverty without the chance to thrive. As a compassion-driven organization, we are more committed than ever to those we serve. Our community is counting on us, and we are committed to being nimble, creative and steadfast in our response.
Gratitude in Action
Even amid challenges, our community continues to show up in extraordinary ways. Last month, during our annual School Supply Drive, we faced higher costs due to tariffs, yet thanks to 20% more donors than last year, we not only met but surpassed our goal. Together, we provided 5,400 Jeffco students with backpacks filled with supplies, ensuring they could start the school year ready to learn and thrive. This is the power of community that gives us hope as we face the challenges ahead.
How You Can Help
This month, we’re launching a special fundraising effort to raise an additional $50,000 before Labor Day, 2025. Your support will help us fill the most urgent gaps, while we continue to adjust and plan for what’s ahead. Your support is paramount to providing urgent relief. Here are a few ways you can make an immediate impact:
