The Commons at Emory

A former elementary school reimagined as a centralized home for nonprofit partners serving our community.

A Shared Space for Coordinated Care

The Commons at Emory will bring a diverse coalition of nonprofit partners together under one roof, creating a centralized location where individuals and families can access multiple services in a single visit. By co-locating organizations that address food insecurity, housing stability, health, employment, and other essential needs, the Commons is designed to reduce barriers, eliminate duplication, and make it easier for people to get the right support at the right time.

This shared space fosters collaboration among providers while offering a more seamless, dignified experience for those seeking help—strengthening pathways from crisis response to long-term stability.

Expanding Essential Services at The Action Center

The Commons at Emory significantly enhances The Action Center’s ability to meet immediate needs with dignity and scale. A newly designed grocery center will dramatically expand access to nutritious food, while improved space and infrastructure will strengthen the distribution of clothing and other basic essentials.

With larger, purpose-built facilities—including expanded storage, refrigeration, and client-friendly shopping areas—the Action Center can serve more families, offer greater choice, and reduce wait times. These upgrades ensure that core services keep pace with growing community need while creating a more welcoming, efficient experience for those seeking support.

A Model for What’s Possible

The Commons at Emory is more than a facility—it represents a fundamentally different way of addressing community need through coordination, shared infrastructure, and collective impact. By intentionally bringing nonprofit partners together in a single, purpose-designed space, this approach moves beyond isolated services toward a truly integrated system of support.

Across the country, communities are grappling with fragmented services, rising demand, and limited resources. The Commons offers a scalable, replicable model—one that demonstrates how collaboration can reduce barriers, increase efficiency, and improve outcomes. In doing so, The Action Center aims to serve not only local families, but also as a national exemplar for how communities can respond more effectively and humanely to hardship.
