FANS

FANS (Families Advocating Neighborhood Strength) is a coalition of residents, parents and service providers that have been meeting since 1998 to facilitate the safe and healthy development of individuals, families, and the community through informed and nuturing interactions amongst our neighbors.

Information & Activities

Parents throughout South Boston communicate the same needs and concerns about raising their children, such as: child care, substance abuse, violence, and housing. While most are familiar with resources in their immediate areas, few use resources in all the neighborhoods of South Boston.

FANS encourages meeting and sharing across the boundaries of neighborhoods to reduce an increasing sense of alienation and isolation permeating all communities of our present culture.

Parent to Parent

Learning to be a healthy amd wholesome family demands that a parents participate in re-thinking what makes families, neighborhoods, and social service agencies work. By bringing South Boston parents together to address common priorities and needs, FANS helps parents support each other in the challenging work of being parents.

Addictions

Many South Boston parents worry about the effects of drugs in the community on children and families. FANS provides information, resourses, and a safe forum to address the issues related to drug abuse and other addictions.

Housing

There is a serious housing problem in South Boston and the surrounding community. FANS can provide you with information on your housing rights and where to get assistance. FANS also engages with churches, developers, and service agencies in South Boston who share an interest in creating safe, healthy, affordable housing for residents in need, particularly those considered to be low-income.
